The Orchestra a Plettro Senese may well be the only such ensemble with instruments that cover the complete range of a string orchestra, with the difference that the strings, instead of being bowed, are plucked. The instruments plucked with the fingers are the harp, the guitar and the chitarrone, those plucked with a plectrum are the mandolin family (form the small quartino through the mandolin, mandola, mandoloncello and mandolone) and the harpsicord, in which the plectrum that plucks the strings is activated through a keyboard).
Most of the members of the orchestra received some or all of their musical training in the orchestra’s own music school.
